Monthly Archives: August 2012

Tuesday 28 August – MAIN Meeting – 5:30pm – 8:30pm

Alex Zaharov-Reutt

Daniel will be presenting Trend’s latest MAXIMUM Security 2012 product, and will explain how Trend’s protective software makes every-day computing the safest it has ever been, how Trend secures your digital life and keeps you safe from malware, viruses, trojans, phishing threats, banking scams and so much more – without slowing you or your PC down – and with Windows 8 compatibility when it ships.

There will be THREE copies of Trend’s Maximum Security 2012 valued at $129.95 each, which is a fantastic set of prizes from Trend Micro.

As you know, I’ll be in Thailand during the meeting, so apologies that I won’t be there in person – please make Daniel feel welcome as per usual and have a great meeting! See you next month!

SMSA – More USELESS Promises

The Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts does it to us again !!!

This time the WEB DESIGN SIG did actually have a full meeting on the first floor [ today Saturday 18th August 2012 ].

Another group on the 1st floor – the Chinese/Australian Friendship group needed to go up to the 6th floor and couldn’t ! [ Not sure of the full story there ]

SMSA promised normal facilities again for us this month? Yeah right !!! Guess what !!!

Our fixed-line internet access was NOT available.

I’d like to hear their explanation of that one !!!

THAT WAS THE LAST STRAW !!! Talk about ABSOLUTE CONTEMPT of their customers !!!

Fine Tuning PCs

Fine tuning your PC seems like a great topic (although covering a vast area) which fully occupy such sites as Windows Secrets and Windows Tips & Tricks.

With everyone moving to touch-enabled devices, how much fine tuning do they allow, I wonder? Maybe we can at least limit the number of Apps running at once 🙂

For PCs, some things to consider might be:

  • To defrag or not to defrag
  • Cleaning up the Registry
  • How to quicken bootup times
  • Adding more memory
  • SSDs — Solid State Drives
  • CPU overclocking & water cooling

and many more.

Please add your thoughts and “Leave a Comment”.
