********************* Another sorry tale of WEB SIG LOCKOUT !!! ************************
As you all know, the Web SIG was bumped from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor for today’s (2pm – 4pm) meeting on Sat 21st of July 2012.
I took the computer trolley from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor, but left the kitchen box in our cupboard.
The 1st part of the meeting went fine. Then we had coffee in our usual 1st floor kitchen.
The lift would then NOT RETURN US TO THE 3RD FLOOR !!!
There must be an unwritten clause in our use of their building which says lift access denied after, say, XX minutes of the start of a meeting (unless there are other later meetings on the same floor).
XX is probably 15, but I’ll bet even the Committee may not know.
We tried the emergency number by the phone on the 1st floor wall (that person was in Queensland on a Conference !!!) Absolutely NO thought given to the contingency planning there !!! Criminal !!!
The Office Hours number gave a recorded message mentioning a garbled phone number. Bryan had to ring a half a dozen times before we could write that number down properly.
That number went to a woman whose job was “Office emergencies” like burst water mains and the like.
ABSOLUTELY HOPELESS !!!
She was not even an employee – an out-sourced person with NO CARD ACCESS !!! And thus NO authority to help whatever !!!
It’s bureaucratic cost-cutting gone mad — with NO practical help from the poor suc—s left holding the bag.
The upshot is that we all have had to abandon our personal belongings, including my overcoat, and others’ glasses etc.
[ Lucky, Steve, you didn’t lose your jacket, laptop and mobile phone too !!! ]
We can only hope that the goods will be returned to us undamaged before Tuesday’s Main Meeting (with an abject apology) !!!
Disgusted and LIVID !!!
